Cooped up, confined, in that cell twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, I began to learn the true depth of Truelove’s passion for the Royal Nation. There were many late-night talks between us that had turned to the subject of the organization. He explained to me that if one were to really live by the teachings of the Nation and would apply the concepts into their everyday lives, then that person could only prosper. It wasn’t about gangbanging, according to Trulove, it was about being there for your brother at all times, in all ways, whenever needed.
“Unity,” he’d say, “With unity and loyalty woven together, tightly, the bond between brothers solidifyies the Nation.” Through Truelove, I began to see not only the Simon City Royal organization, but all organizations in a new light. I honestly never knew that organizations such as the Gangster disciples and the Vicelords actually had more real meaning to them other than just sporting certain colors, throwing gang signs and claiming territory. That newfound enlightenment made me realize that I really never knew anything at all.
And I found myself wanting to know more……
(In reality, though, noone lived by those positive teachings that supposedly fueled the Nation. Instead, we sold drugs and lived pretty much the same life that I always had……)
